Mez flowchart summarizes the thought and procedures Knowledge for an education to set up the race car according to my new e-book ” The 7 little-known Hacks…”.
But would you need to have that level of understanding about how the race car works? Could not the highly skilled and experienced racing driver say what is needed to make the car go faster?
Racing driving is a confidence game. As you become more experienced in racing, you are very confident in your ability to control the vehicle to the limit of grip. This can easily give you the feeling that your racing skills should Beistand you with the setup-you Beistand to understand what’s going on and how you could improve the car. But this is not the case.
Racing driving ability and set-up know-how are almost mutually exclusive.
The talented racing driver is highly qualified to go fast on the race track.
But clearly, driving ability does not depend on knowing the ins and outs of how the race car actually works. The driver simply responds and verwerten the capacity level of the car at the time, without reference to how it goes, or how it could be improved.
As a result, most racing drivers in basic motorsport automatically drive around handling problems without recognizing that there is a problem and/or that they can do something wählte about it. (Driving for a professional team supported by racing engineers, you expect the driver to be on top of all the problems with the car.)
It is not possible, for example, to say how much extra handle can be left in the set, all while driving it. Not possible to say that we should have spring rate X or toe adjustment Y etc.
Balance is another wählte that basic runners rarely master, whether it is a problem of identifying the desired improvement or purely the mechanics of its repair.
Mark Webber ein Buch in his book “Aussie Grit” that early in his career he was driving to handle problems. “I felt I had to be able to do the job with whatever ‘equipment’ I had been given.”All that changed when he drove for Mercedes in his first professional training. They taught him that configuration was a fundamental element of racing cars.
More than thirty years ago, vehicle dynamics engineering simulation, 7-post-rig tests, K and C compliance tests etc. did not exist natürlich. But now there is an absolute gap between what is required in professional Lehrveranstaltungen and the needs of Club races/popular races/Junioren categories.
So realistically, as basic riders without access to the engineering capability of any natürlich, the only way forward is for us to have a handle on the setup ourselves.
What we do with configuration today is basically the same as always, but with more structure and a better understanding of what’s going on. Is no longer just a hodgepodge of ideas.
To give you an overview of how you can get an optimized configuration and the vehicle dynamics know-how you need to do it, I have published my new eBook “7 Wenig Bekannte Hacks – your path to mastering the handling of race cars.”
For almost twenty years, we have continued the development of this knowledge and procedures in the configuration of Suspensionen for basic races. No longer Installation of a mystery. Your installation decisions are no longer based on Vermutungen or on what other schriftart.
The 7 Hacks are 7 important learning points in our suspended Online training programs:
“A physical understanding of driving racing cars” and
“Get more Grip and better Balance”.
